About the Hounds
Boone's dogs are his partners and his most important asset. Sue, Trailer, Poncho, Max, Lucky and Thor are intelligent and experienced, with hundreds of miles of tracking to their credit. Their breeding includes Blue Tick, Catahoula, Black and Tan, and Mexican lineage.
FOR OVER 20 YEARS, Boone Smith has provided safe and efficent wildlife capture across a variety of species. Internationally recognized for his skill and expertise, Smith has captured more than 650 cougars, collaring over 225 of them for research in the Western United States and South America. He has worked Jaguar captures in Brazil and the first Snow Leopard capture and collaring in Afganistan. Additionally, he has traveled to Africa, India, Russia and Australia on various wildlife-related projects.
During his career, Smith has helped develop some of the best and safest capture techniques for big cats used today. Utilizing well-trained hounds, high-tech equipment, and a variety of capture methods to achieve results in rough terrain and challenging conditions, Smith always keeps the safety of the animals his top priority.
Smith is featured in numerous National Geographic doumentaries and makes regular media appearances to promote awareness in hopes of reducing human-predator conflicts. He speaks regularly about wildlife conservation and management.
In addition to big cat captures, Smith has assisted in capturing coyotes, elk, moose, deer, wolverines, and black bears for research purposes with various organizations. He also works with Fish and Game Departments to release incidental trapped species from leghold traps and enable relocation of problem wildlife.
